July 15 Meeting Update

On Thursday, July 15, the Andover Park & Rec Commission met at Andover City Hall. Rob and I and 12 Andover residents interested in an off-leash dog park were at the meeting. The QCTV website already has the entire meeting online (dog park business starts at 11:25) and here is a brief rundown of what was discussed:

  1. The Andover Dog Park web-based effort (170 online petition signatures)
  2. Fun Fest wrap-up (274 petition signatures)
  3. Review of 4 local dog parks
    • Happy Acres Temporary Dog Park in Blaine
    • Trackside Dog Park in Coon Rapids
    • Alpine Dog Park in Ramsey
    • Elm Creek off-leash dog trails
  4. Review of 4 positional sites in Andover for an off-leash area
    • Eveland Fields (favorite of Rob and Jen) – 2275 Andover Blvd. NW  (#59 on park map)
    • Andover Station North – 1823 139th Ln. NW (#65 on park map)
    • City Hall Park Complex #1 “Purple Park” – 1685 Crosstown Blvd. NW (#22 on park map)
    • Fox Meadows – 16000 Fox St. NW (#16 on park map)

The Park & Rec Commission thanked us for the presentation and asked for time to review the local dog parks and the 4 parks suggested. There will be another meeting in September to further discuss the Andover Dog Park project. I will update the website when I have an exact date.

A big, HUGE thanks to the good folks who attended the meeting! We set up a doggie play date for everyone on Sunday, July 18 so we can all get to know each other in a less formal setting. Please join us! Everyone is welcome. If you are interested in being part of a committee for this project, drop us a line and we will add you to the email list.
